Public Speaking

Andrew’s speaking is intended for individuals and groups who need practical strategies to up their game. Andrew encourages the same principles of self-motivation and resourcefulness that he applied as an Olympic athlete and in his world record breaking ride.

Insightful and often humorous anecdotes are used to describe how the basics are still so often the key to success. Not surprisingly, concepts of time management, goal setting and self-motivation are recurring themes in Andrew's talks.  How well do you or your group apply these concepts? How can you apply these concepts to your sports career or personal goals?  How far could you really go?

Coaching

In addition to Andrew's background as an Olympic athlete, he is a qualified fitness instructor and personal trainer.  He has worked in the fitness industry, and as a coach since 1998. Andrew has been a competitive multisport athlete finishing at the top end in 5 one-day coast to coast races, and has been a competitive power-lifter.

Andrew has coached, trained and competed at the highest level in a wide range of sports. His training philosophy is based on basics, quality over quantity and systematic progression. Andrew's coaching style focuses as much on mental strategies, time management and goal setting as it does on a specific training prescription of programmes.

Personal training is available but the long term goal of Andrew's coaching is to help athletes become self-dependent and self-motivated in achieving their success.

About

On 13 December 2015 Andrew Nicholson completed the

Fastest Circumnavigation of the World by Bicycle.

In the twilight of a long and varied athletic career, the death of a friend became a reminder to live each day to the limit.  Building on the lessons and experience gained as a Triple Olympic speed skater, Andrew set off on an epic 29,209 km cycle journey.

To break the existing record Andrew would need to ride an average of 235 km per day for 4 months, longer than the daily average of the Tour de France.   Low on funding and virtually unsupported, Andrew faced a never ending series of physical, emotional and logistical challenges. Drawing on his resourcefulness and personal experience Andrew conquered monsoons, extreme heat and the madness of Indian roads in the one of the toughest challenges imaginable.

Testimonials

Andrew Nicholson has attended 3 of our ice training camps as coach and team leader.    At all 3 camps he was outstanding with both his effort and his results.   We found he was excellent at engaging the interest and enthusiasm of both young children and teens.    The young skaters loved the new and fun drills he introduced on the ice; they thought they were just playing games but actually they were learning new skills.   The older skaters greatly benefited from Andrew’s weight lifting and plyometric tuition.   Andrew is a great asset to our camps as he is able to use both his vast experience as an athlete as well as his teaching training and skills, to set lesson plans and outcomes for both the practical and the theory sessions he ran.   We would not hesitate to employ Andrew again for our camps and sessions.
